1.8 Million Users in Dark Web Child Abuse Network—Major Bust Reveals Global Scale

One of the world’s most extensive pedophile networks has been dismantled in a large-scale international operation coordinated by Europol. The dark web platform ‘Kidflix,’ created exclusively for the sexual exploitation of children, distributed roughly 72,000 videos depicting abuse, including what authorities described as “unimaginably horrific acts” against infants, toddlers, and older children. Operating since 2021, the site attracted over 1.8 million users before its shutdown on March 11, 2025.

The investigation led to the arrest of 79 individuals, with more than 1,400 additional suspects identified as users of the platform. Many of those apprehended were not just passive viewers or uploaders but were directly involved in the abuse of children. Among the most alarming cases was a 36-year-old man who offered his own son for exploitation, as well as a serial abuser based in the United States.

The operation, named ‘Operation Stream’ and led by German authorities, has been recognized as one of the most significant crackdowns on child sexual abuse material in recent history. Guido Limmer, deputy head of the Bavarian criminal police, stated that it may represent “one of the biggest blows against child pornography ever.” The collaborative effort involved law enforcement agencies across 36 countries, including the United Kingdom.

The platform’s reach was staggering, with an average of 3.5 new videos uploaded every hour. Unlike similar sites, ‘Kidflix’ allowed users to both stream and download content, operating as a highly organized and monetized system. Access was granted either through cryptocurrency payments or by contributing to the platform, such as by categorizing or uploading abusive material.

Europol’s executive director, Catherine de Bolle, emphasized the human cost behind these crimes, stating, “There are real victims behind these crimes, and those victims are children.” As part of the operation, German authorities intervened in 96 cases, stopping ongoing abuse in 12 instances and safeguarding 39 children during the investigation.
