The report suggested the tense interaction occurred at Camp David during a Cabinet gathering, fueled by anxieties regarding potential conflict with Iran.
Unnamed sources told the newspaper that Trump was annoyed to discover that interceptor and long-range missile shortages persisted. The report claimed Trump accused Hegseth of failing to fix the problem, while Hegseth reportedly blamed Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg. The White House has firmly denied these claims. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt characterized the report as entirely false and stated that the President maintains full confidence in Hegseth.
The Pentagon also issued a rebuttal through spokesman Sean Parnell. He stated that Hegseth never misled the administration or attempted to displace blame onto Feinberg. Furthermore, the Pentagon dismissed the assertions concerning depleted stockpiles and internal policy conflicts as completely fabricated.
