Venus and Serena Williams have secured a wildcard invitation to compete in the women’s doubles draw at the Cincinnati Open. This tournament, scheduled for August 11-23 in Ohio, marks the first time the sisters have teamed up for doubles since their appearance at the 2022 US Open.
The siblings were previously slated to participate at Wimbledon earlier this summer, but those plans were derailed when 44-year-old Serena sustained a knee injury during her singles match against Maya Joint. Participation in this WTA 1000 event may serve as a precursor to Serena attempting a return to the US Open later this year. Serena, who continues her pursuit of an all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, recently made her return to Grand Slam play at the All England Club.
As a pair, Venus and Serena have secured three Olympic gold medals and 14 major championship titles. In addition to the doubles entry, 46-year-old Venus Williams has been granted a wildcard for the singles competition in Cincinnati.
