Sunday provided a cooler interlude, finally bringing an end to a 21-day heatwave for locations like Usk in Monmouthshire and Exeter in Devon. Temperatures across the country settled into the mid-20s in the south-east and the mid-teens in the north.
However, this relief will be temporary. High pressure moving toward the south will block rain systems, pushing wet weather toward north-western Scotland while temperatures climb across the rest of the UK. By midweek, specifically Wednesday, meteorologists expect peaks of 30-35C across much of England and eastern Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland will also see warmer conditions, though they will remain milder than the south.
