Unidentified assailants vandalize opposition party offices in Owerri

Offices of the YPP and APP in Owerri were vandalized by unidentified attackers early Sunday, prompting calls for a police investigation.

Early Sunday morning, unidentified individuals targeted the Imo State headquarters of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the All People’s Party (APP) in Owerri. Located on Okigwe Road, the offices were struck around 3:00 a.m. The perpetrators damaged billboards and tried to break into the facilities, though security staff thwarted their entry by raising an alarm.

This event follows a separate violent incident involving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier in the week. Michael Anyanwu, the Imo State YPP Chairman, stated that the attackers arrived in an unmarked Sienna vehicle. He questioned the motive behind targeting party identity markers and vowed that the party would not be intimidated, confirming that a police report had been filed.

The APP has not yet commented on the situation. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any involvement, with Publicity Secretary Onwuasoanya FCC Jones suggesting the event might have been staged. The APC emphasized its commitment to democratic processes and urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure public order.
