General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces in Uganda, has ignited a public stir by announcing he wishes to marry Beyonce. The general, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, used social media platform X to insist that the rapper Jay-Z hand over his wife. He explicitly challenged the musician to a physical confrontation in Uganda to determine who deserves to be with her.
Kainerugaba attempted to justify his superiority by asserting that his massive collection of Ankole cattle renders him wealthier than Jay-Z. He jokingly threatened to bring his grievances to the United Nations. Neither the singer nor her husband, who have been wed since 2008, have commented on the general’s statements.
This is not the first time Kainerugaba has caused international friction. In 2022, he prompted a diplomatic rift with Kenya by claiming his military could seize Nairobi. He also previously suggested offering cattle as a dowry for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and mandated that female soldiers in the Uganda People’s Defence Force wear skirts instead of trousers. These frequent, erratic outbursts from a high-ranking military official continue to invite significant global criticism.
