President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated the 122-kilometre Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road project this Tuesday, honoring a campaign commitment made during his time as an All Progressives Congress candidate three years ago. Governor Uba Sani, representing the President, recounted Tinubu’s 2022 campaign visit to Birnin Gwari, an area then plagued by insecurity, where he insisted on visiting despite warnings. During that visit, Tinubu pledged to reconstruct the route from Mando to Birnin Gwari and restore stability to the region.
Governor Sani highlighted the project’s significance, noting that the federal government approved N178 billion for the construction, which serves as a vital link connecting the North West to the South West. He praised Minister of Works Senator David Umahi for his role in securing the funding. The Governor also noted that the region had seen no major road construction in two decades before this administration, adding that the state is currently building 36 kilometres of roads across 72 farming communities in the local government area.
Beyond the Birnin Gwari road, the Governor detailed other federal initiatives, including an $865 million light rail project for Kaduna metropolis and ongoing work on the Western bye-pass. Minister of Works David Umahi lauded President Tinubu for his commitment to his promises and praised Governor Sani for his developmental efforts and ability to unify the state. Expressing his full support for the President, Governor Sani stated that the people of Kaduna remain firmly committed to the current administration’s vision.
