Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has publicly stated that President Bola Tinubu has fundamentally changed since taking office. During a recent interview with Symfoni TV, Lawal expressed that the president seems to have lost his original character.
Reflecting on their history, Lawal characterized Tinubu as a formerly generous and strategic leader who would assist others during personal or financial crises. He noted that the president possessed a unique knack for identifying people who would later prove useful, often providing substantial support without immediate demands. Lawal viewed this as a rare, almost prophetic talent for building long-term political relationships.
However, Lawal argued that these positive traits have vanished since Tinubu became president. He suggested that the current administration is marked by a lack of oversight, claiming that as long as the president secures his own interests, he appears indifferent to systemic corruption around him. Lawal concluded that many former associates find the current leadership style unrecognizable and urged the president to return to the man he once was for the sake of the country.
