Tragedy struck Government Secondary School in Bichi LGA, Kano State, as two students were killed and two others hospitalised following a brutal late-night attack by their schoolmates.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the school’s principal, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the incident to the police on July 15, 2025, following the deadly assault that occurred the night before, around 11:30 p.m. on July 14.

The victims, Hamza Idris (19, SS3B), Umar Yusuf (18, SS2C), Ibrahim Ibrahim (SS2B), and Aliyu M. Nasir (SS2C) were reportedly lured into a hostel by a group of senior students who accused them of being involved in so-called “unnatural offences.” There, the four were violently attacked and left with serious injuries.

They were immediately rushed to Bichi General Hospital, where Idris and Yusuf were pronounced dead, while Ibrahim and Nasir remain hospitalised and are said to be responding to treatment.

Twelve suspects, all SS3 students have been arrested in connection with the assault. Those in custody include:

  • Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (SS3A)

  • Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B)

  • Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C)

  • Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D)

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and all suspects found culpable will face prosecution under the law.

Parents, education authorities, and mental health professionals are calling for urgent reforms, better supervision, and safe reporting channels within the school system to prevent further tragedies.
