The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has taken two individuals into custody following the suspected conspiracy and killing of 26-year-old Nsikak Joshua in Oboetim Ikot Ekong Village, Nsit Ibom. DSP Timfon John, the command spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in Uyo on Monday.
The investigation began after the victim’s 52-year-old father, Mr. Ekere, filed a report on July 14, 2026. He claimed his son was beaten to death by Otobong Nelson, also known as Efok Ikid, along with Inemesit Robert, Utibe Clement, and Victor Robert. Mr. Ekere stated that the men arrived at his home that morning with tools, coerced him into identifying a burial site, interred his son in a shallow grave, and warned him to remain silent.
Police detectives tracked down and apprehended Nelson and Clement early on July 17. Under questioning, Nelson admitted that he ordered his associates to attack Joshua following accusations that the victim had threatened a neighbor with a machete. Nelson further confessed to misleading the victim’s father by claiming Joshua died in a hit-and-run accident before burying him on the property.
Authorities have since exhumed the body and moved it to a morgue for an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police has denounced the violence and ordered a pursuit of the remaining suspects still at large.
