President Bola Tinubu has voiced strong support for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. He rejected claims that the commission lacks impartiality, suggesting that critics making such allegations are merely projecting their own insecurities. The President addressed these concerns on Tuesday during a meeting at the State House in Abuja with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, headed by Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso.
This discussion followed a request from the bishops for the administration to ensure that future elections remain fair and transparent. In his rebuttal, Tinubu asserted that INEC has operated without bias and has not harassed any political figures. He characterized the complaints from opponents as signs of their own internal anxieties rather than failures of the electoral body.
Regarding national safety, the President briefed the clergy on his strategy to address terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. He noted that his administration is prioritizing enhanced intelligence, better infrastructure, and improved welfare for security staff. Furthermore, Tinubu emphasized that the country has moved past the economic instability he faced upon taking office, promising that economic growth is underway. He also noted progress in the education sector, specifically highlighting that consistent academic schedules are now possible because university strikes have ceased under his leadership.
