A commercial bus traveling from Jos to Kano was ambushed by armed assailants in the Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving three passengers missing. CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, confirmed the incident took place on Sunday, July 26, 2026, around 5:30 p.m.
A Toyota Hiace bus carrying 20 passengers was intercepted by five armed individuals near the Folgore Forest region. The attackers, wielding machetes and a firearm, kidnapped 13 people from the vehicle. Upon receiving an emergency notification, officers from the Doguwa Division arrived at the location and engaged the gunmen in a shootout.
Police successfully rescued nine individuals during the operation, while a tenth person managed to escape on their own. The three remaining hostages—one man and two women—are still being held by the perpetrators. The rescued passengers received medical attention at Doguwa General Hospital and are reportedly in stable condition.
The Kano State Police Command has launched an extensive manhunt and deployed extra tactical units to locate the victims and capture the suspects. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the public for their assistance and encouraged citizens to stay alert, urging them to report any suspicious activities to local authorities immediately.
