Alhaji Yakubu Salihu, National Chairman of the Kaiama Development Association, announced that 13 people are still missing following the release of 163 victims who had been held captive for six months. Speaking in Ilorin, Salihu noted that of the 176 individuals initially seized during the raid, 13 remain unaccounted for. He further disclosed that several women returned pregnant, with some having delivered infants during their detention.
The Kwara State Government is coordinating efforts to transport the survivors from Niger State to Ilorin, where they will undergo resettlement and support. Salihu took the opportunity to call on state authorities to repair the four main roads connecting to Kaiama, citing their poor condition as a hindrance to both transportation and rapid security deployment. He also urged the Federal Government to expedite the creation of a permanent Nigerian Army battalion in the region to bolster local security and deter criminal activity.
While expressing gratitude for the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security forces, Salihu emphasized that current personnel levels are insufficient. He reaffirmed the community’s willingness to provide the necessary land and resources to host a military base. Currently, the freed victims are undergoing medical and administrative clearance in Niger State, with their arrival in Kwara expected shortly to be greeted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
