Tanimu Turaki Announces Mandatory Anti-Defection Pacts for 2027 PDP Candidates

Tanimu Turaki of the PDP faction has declared that 2027 election candidates must sign formal anti-defection agreements to secure their nominations.

The Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has introduced a strict measure to prevent candidate defection during the 2027 election cycle. Tanimu Turaki, who chairs the party’s interim national leadership, announced on Wednesday that all candidates must sign a formal commitment before their names are submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

This announcement coincided with the distribution of Certificates of Return to 21 governorship candidates, marking the conclusion of the party’s primary nomination process. Turaki emphasized that the PDP is fully prepared for the upcoming polls. He stated that the era of candidates securing a party mandate only to abandon the organization for a rival group is over.

To safeguard the party’s integrity and mitigate legal challenges, Turaki noted that all candidates have undergone thorough background investigations and security assessments. He insisted that the new mandatory undertaking serves as a guarantee that past instances of mid-term defection will not be repeated.
