Vitor Matos has reaffirmed that reaching the Premier League remains the ultimate objective for Swansea City following his contract extension through 2030. Despite this long-term ambition, the head coach emphasized that his immediate priority is ensuring the squad remains competitive against the best teams in the Championship on a daily basis.
Since taking charge last November, Matos has guided the club to an 11th-place finish, stabilizing their performance and moving away from potential relegation threats. He argues that lofty goals are meaningless without the right daily work ethic, noting that he prefers to focus on fostering a mentality that allows the team to challenge and defeat any opponent in the division.
Swansea, now heading into their ninth consecutive season in the second tier, has shown significant activity in the transfer market. The club has invested roughly £15 million on new arrivals including Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku, and Moussa Yeo, alongside the addition of Stephen Welsh. Further recruitment in defensive and midfield positions remains a possibility before the window shuts.
