The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed the Nigerian Presidency is being inconsistent regarding national sovereignty. This critique follows the government’s recent rebuke of opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar for his foreign engagements.
National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi released a statement on Friday challenging the administration. The government had previously asserted that Nigeria is a sovereign entity that does not answer to external powers while criticizing Atiku.
Abdullahi pointed out a clear contradiction, noting that the Presidency recently boasted about a letter sent to President Bola Tinubu by U.S. President Donald Trump. He argued that officials promoted the letter as an endorsement of Tinubu’s administration, yet they now condemn references to international figures when the opposition is involved.
“It is hypocrisy,” Abdullahi stated. He contended that the government is quick to use international validation to bolster its own reputation but invokes the concept of national dignity only to deflect criticism from political opponents.
