Suspected bandits killed six soldiers and kidnapped more than 70 people during an attack on the Kasuwar Daji community in the Kaura-Namoda local government area of Zamfara state. The assault began around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after the attackers overwhelmed the local military outpost.
Witnesses reported that the armed group arrived in large numbers, firing weapons indiscriminately to force their way into the community. Beyond the casualties and abductions, the raiders looted various shops, seizing food and supplies. Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, a local resident, described the situation as dire, emphasizing that the community is vulnerable if the military can be overpowered by these criminal elements.
Former deputy speaker Hon. Namadi Kasuwar Daji confirmed the attack from outside the state, noting that family members informed him of the violence and the subsequent looting. He confirmed that soldiers were killed during the encounter, though specific details regarding the exact number of captives remain unclear. State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, stated he had no immediate information regarding the incident and did not provide further updates after his initial inquiry.
