Persistent heavy rains in Anambra State have forced the traditional ruler of the Obosi Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, to vacate his palace. The floodwaters rose rapidly, submerging the royal residence and damaging several luxury vehicles parked on the premises. This incident highlights the ongoing struggle against flooding in the region, particularly in Ogidi, which has faced severe erosion issues for over two decades.
Large sections of the old Awka-Onitsha road remain unusable, forcing many local residents to abandon their homes. Despite campaign promises made by Governor Chukwuma Soludo before his election, residents note that no substantive road repairs have begun. Critics have pointed out that community funds previously donated to the governor’s campaign could have been better invested in local infrastructure to address these persistent environmental threats.
The current location of the monarch remains unconfirmed as the community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the downpour.
