Scotland secures eight medals during frantic five-hour window at Commonwealth Games

Scotland added eight medals to their tally in a single afternoon in Glasgow, bringing their total Commonwealth Games count to 23 as the event hits the halfway mark.

Host nation Scotland enjoyed a productive Wednesday, capturing eight medals over a turbulent five-hour period to bring their total count to 23 at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The successful run began with the men’s 3×3 basketball team, followed by a surge of activity later in the evening. Swimmers Angharad Evans and Keanna MacInnes contributed significantly, both securing multiple medals alongside Toni Shaw. On the track, Melanie Woods achieved a record-breaking gold in the T54 1500m, while Steven MacKenzie picked up an unexpected bronze in the long jump. The women’s wheelchair 3×3 basketball squad also celebrated a podium finish, taking home silver.

This performance represents Scotland’s most successful single day since the final day of the 2022 Birmingham Games. With the event now past its midpoint, Scotland holds a total of nine gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals. Further success is anticipated, as boxers are already assured of three additional medals, with ongoing opportunities in athletics, cycling, judo, weightlifting, and bowls.
