Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, who is seeking the governorship of Rivers State under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has fired back at FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. His response follows Wike’s claim that he holds the authority to determine the state’s next leader.
During a gathering of his supporters on February 3, 2026, Wike asserted that he would handpick a candidate to replace the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the 2027 polls. He insisted that his chosen successor would undoubtedly secure victory.
In a Thursday interview with Arise News, Nwibubasa dismissed the minister’s bold declaration as an act of blasphemy. He argued that ultimate power rests with God and suggested that Wike is merely positioning himself as a divine figure, a notion he finds unacceptable. Nwibubasa also criticized Governor Fubara for his inconsistent political stances. He urged the electorate to recognize the need for change, calling on the citizens of Rivers to remain vigilant and reject politicians who lack firm convictions in order to break free from the influence of current political actors.
