The Edo State Police Command has successfully detained five individuals connected to a kidnapping at a vegetable market in Benin City. ASP Eno Ikoedem, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed these developments in an official update.
During the rescue effort on June 14, 2026, security forces engaged in a shootout that resulted in the neutralization of a suspect named Precious. Operatives from the Intelligence Response Team subsequently captured 32-year-old Marvelous Isaac. Investigators recovered a red Lexus RX 350, identified as the vehicle used in the abduction, alongside a pump-action shotgun, two cartridges, a motorcycle, and over two million naira in cash.
On June 20, 2026, police conducted follow-up raids across Benin City and areas in Delta State, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects. Among them was 27-year-old Gift Raphael, whose cooperation facilitated the capture of Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael. All suspects have admitted their involvement in the vegetable market kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika praised the officers for their efficiency and bravery. He reiterated the commitment of the force to eliminate criminal activity in the state and encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and share reliable information with law enforcement.
