The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced its commitment to facilitating the creation of state-level police forces, emphasizing that integrity and efficiency will stay at the forefront of this transition. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun confirmed this stance during an educational workshop hosted by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS).
This initiative is designed to train officers so they can provide meaningful input on future structural changes and successfully navigate the shift toward localized policing. Egbetokun urged attendees to share these insights with their subordinates to ensure consistent standards across all units.
Professor Olu Ogunshakin, head of the NIPS, commended the Inspector-General for creating a specialized steering committee. He highlighted that several of the committee’s suggestions were included in the current State Police Bill, marking a major step for the nation’s law enforcement evolution. This workshop serves as a proactive measure to improve operational success and maintain public trust as reform moves forward.
