Police in Osun search for suspects after stray bullet claims teenager’s life

Osun State police are hunting for a suspect named Saheed, alias Tanfeani, and his associates following a shooting incident in Ilobu that left a 14-year-old boy dead and another person injured.

The Osun State Police Command is actively seeking individuals involved in a shooting near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu. The attack resulted in the death of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade and left one other person injured.

Police spokesperson SP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that the shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon. Authorities have identified a primary suspect, Saheed—widely known as Tanfeani—who allegedly arrived at the scene with several accomplices and began firing their weapons. The teenager was hit by a stray bullet and passed away instantly.

Reports from witnesses indicate that the gunmen were targeting an individual wearing a political party-branded cap at a palm wine establishment located across from the secretariat. This business is owned by the victim’s mother. As the armed men approached, patrons scrambled to escape the chaotic scene. A local resident noted that while the gunmen fired without discrimination, the deceased appeared to be an unintended casualty.

The second victim, whose name has not been released, is currently undergoing medical treatment for gunshot wounds. Police officials have stated that while the perpetrators have escaped, a thorough investigation is underway to track them down and ensure they face legal consequences.
