Sati Bature Shuwa, the Executive Chairman of the Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State, has voiced alarm regarding a shift in the operational tactics of local terrorists. Shuwa noted that these groups are increasingly focusing their violence on security forces and local vigilantes rather than solely targeting civilian populations.
The chairman delivered these remarks following a visit to the Jol community. This area recently suffered a tragedy on Tuesday night when three vigilante brothers were murdered during a patrol. This incident followed another violent encounter in Danwal, Ganawuri District, where gunmen ambushed a joint security team, killing several officers and stealing their weaponry.
In an official statement released by Press Secretary Damba Dang, Shuwa characterized the security deterioration as an urgent matter requiring federal intervention. He called for an immediate increase in military personnel, improved intelligence networks, and enhanced logistical support for local agencies. Shuwa emphasized that the government must take firm, coordinated action to secure the region, as the evolving nature of these attacks has left both residents and those tasked with their protection in a state of crisis.
