The media team for Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed the agenda set by the political establishment, asserting that those who caused the nation’s problems should not dictate the terms of public debate. The office stated that supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso movement will ignore petty controversies to prioritize pressing national concerns like economic instability, insecurity, and ineffective leadership.
In a Wednesday statement, spokesperson Idris Zekeri noted that smear campaigns will not stop Obi from pushing for structural reforms. This response followed backlash from an interview, which the office described as a calculated attempt by political rivals to shift focus away from Obi’s critiques of the government. The campaign maintains that Nigeria is currently suffering from a crisis of governance rather than a mere disagreement over political messaging.
The media office emphasized that the national conversation should focus on rescuing the economy, strengthening the naira, and shifting from a consumption-based model to a productive one. They argued that while citizens struggle with unemployment and inflation, certain political players are intentionally creating distractions. Consequently, the team urged the public and the media to ignore these maneuvers and continue demanding accountability from leadership regarding food inflation and security.
