Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming August 15 Osun State governorship election, has requested a comprehensive police investigation into a shooting that harmed party members over the weekend. Recent reports of violence have heightened political friction throughout the state.
Following his Saturday visit to Taoreed Mustapha and Ayoola Idowu, who are recovering from injuries at hospitals in Osogbo, Oyebamiji dismissed the violence as both regrettable and avoidable. He emphasized that the electoral process should be viewed as a democratic exercise rather than a conflict. He urged the Osun State Commissioner of Police to identify the perpetrators, questioning the value of seeking office if the electorate is harmed in the process.
Wole Oke, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Organisation, echoed these concerns, labeling the attack unacceptable. Oke called on security forces to prioritize the protection of citizens and ensure that the individuals involved in the shooting face legal consequences.
