Parties provide status reports on candidate uploads as INEC deadline looms

Political parties are reporting varied levels of success in uploading candidate data to the INEC portal as the July 11 deadline passes, with internal disputes in the NNPP causing complications.

Political organizations have provided updates regarding the submission of presidential and legislative candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal following the July 11, 2026, cutoff date. While several groups reported significant headway, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) remains divided, resulting in conflicting reports about their progress.

Osa Director, National Publicity Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), confirmed that the party is moving forward with its uploads, experiencing only minor issues. The organization remains optimistic about completing the process within the legal timeframe. Similarly, Dr. Agbo Major, chairman of the INEC-recognized faction of the NNPP, stated that despite limited time, his team is working around the clock to register all cleared candidates.

Conversely, the rival NNPP faction led by Bala Mohammed reported an inability to finalize uploads. According to National Secretary Dipo Olayoku, this is due to INEC withholding the necessary access code from them, instead providing it exclusively to the group led by Dr. Major. While members of this faction attended required training sessions, they lack the credentials to access the submission portal.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) also reported overcoming early technical glitches. According to Rufus Aiyenigba, the party has successfully uploaded documentation for its presidential ticket, Prince Adewole Adebayo and Dr. Usman Bugaje, alongside a large portion of its National Assembly candidates. The party remains confident that all remaining submissions will be completed promptly.
