Governor Alex Otti of Abia State recently underscored the importance of empowering the youth to ensure the state’s long-term progress. Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Youth Leadership Bootcamp at Government College Umuahia, the governor noted that the program attracted over 7,000 applicants, though only 1,000 were selected for participation.
Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu stated that the Abia State Leadership Academy serves as a vital institution for fostering integrity and practical skills. He emphasized that the state government is prioritizing youth development to protect the future of local growth initiatives.
To enhance the training, the state collaborated with the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan-Atlantic University to provide attendees with insights into international standards for entrepreneurship and innovation. The curriculum is centered on four core areas: service, enterprise, leadership, and impact.
The governor’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, described the initiative as a hallmark of the current administration, aimed at cultivating disciplined leaders. Prof. Kenneth Kalu, the academy president, confirmed the intense selection process required to narrow down the thousands of hopefuls to the final group. Participants Chukwuemerie Obiorah and Treasure Ogbonna expressed gratitude for the opportunity, committing to utilize the training for the betterment of their communities.
