Legal expert addresses Uche Nnaji forgery case and urges firm action

Legal professional Liborous Oshoma discusses the forgery allegations against former Minister Uche Nnaji, calling for his prosecution to uphold government integrity and address failures in security screening.

Attorney Liborous Oshoma recently discussed the certificate forgery allegations surrounding Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, during an interview on Channels TV. Oshoma praised the investigative work of Premium Times, which first brought the issue to light. Despite Nnaji’s initial attempts to challenge the findings by petitioning the Minister of Education against the University of Nigeria Nsukka, a thorough investigation by a specialized panel confirmed that both his university degree and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) documents were fraudulent.

The lawyer argued that Nnaji should be held accountable for the salary and benefits he received while holding federal office under false pretenses. Oshoma suggested that the federal government must scrutinize the official actions Nnaji took during his tenure, as his employment was based on a fraudulent background. He emphasized that the situation highlights significant failures in the nation’s vetting processes, including oversight by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Senate.

Oshoma expressed frustration that Nnaji had previously ignored summons from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), displaying an arrogant attitude toward legal authority. He noted that the public perception of the current administration could be damaged if the government does not ensure a transparent prosecution. By allowing this case to proceed without interference, Oshoma believes the APC has a chance to prove its commitment to integrity. Ultimately, he called for the Attorney General to ensure that no special treatment is granted, warning that a failure to act would further discredit the government on the international stage.
