One Dead, Seven Hurt Following Partial Collapse at Gombe Assembly Construction Site

A section of the Gombe State House of Assembly construction site collapsed on Friday, leading to one death and seven injuries, prompting an immediate government investigation.

Authorities in Gombe State have launched a formal inquiry after an entrance canopy fell at the new State House of Assembly building. This structural failure on Friday resulted in one fatality and injured seven workers.

Danladi Adamu, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, confirmed the incident involved a cantilevered section currently under assembly. Five of the wounded are recovering at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while two others are being cared for at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. The state government has pledged to cover all medical costs for the survivors.

The Ministry has been instructed to collaborate with technical and emergency agencies to identify why the structure failed. Furthermore, the construction firm and the project consultant must produce an official incident report within one day. This will be followed by detailed technical findings and recommendations.

Government officials stated that future decisions will rely on the investigation results. They emphasized that the state remains dedicated to enforcing high safety and engineering standards for all public infrastructure projects.
