Omoyele Sowore pledges legal aid for DJ Chicken after arrest

Omoyele Sowore has stepped forward to assist DJ Chicken, who is currently facing charges for allegedly threatening Seyi Tinubu in a viral social media video.

Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, has publicly offered his support to Ademola Abiodun, the social media personality widely known as DJ Chicken. The disc jockey was recently brought to court on charges linked to alleged threats directed at Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

Using the social media platform X, Sowore expressed his intention to assist in challenging the legal actions initiated by the police. He stated that he is searching for the family of the DJ to provide representation, asserting that the current charges are excessive and unjustified. Sowore highlighted a broader concern, stating that young Nigerians should be provided with support and guidance rather than facing harassment or imprisonment.

DJ Chicken appeared at a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, facing three counts including death threats and breaches of the peace related to the Cybercrime Act. The accusations originated from a video where the entertainer allegedly threatened the President’s son in the context of the 2027 election. Although the DJ later issued a retraction claiming the remarks were merely a stunt for online attention, he remains in custody. Magistrate M.F. Onamusi set bail at N1 million, requiring two sureties, but the defendant was sent to Kirikiri Correctional Centre until those conditions are met. The court session has been rescheduled for August 3, 2026.
