The Obidient Movement has stepped up efforts to gather support for Peter Obi’s presidential aspirations in the upcoming 2027 general elections. During the FCT Obidient Movement Engagement Forum in Abuja, members highlighted their belief that Obi, representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), possesses the necessary leadership skills to resolve the nation’s prevailing governance and economic difficulties.
National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko argued that recent economic struggles were aggravated by the abrupt removal of the fuel subsidy. He noted that this shift led to skyrocketing transportation costs and commodity prices without providing relief to the average citizen. Tanko advocated for government focus on essential sectors like healthcare, education, and public transportation to bolster national welfare.
NDC chieftain Peter Ameh attributed Nigeria’s stagnation to corruption and poor fiscal management. He contended that while the country is rich in natural and human assets, it lacks visionary and honest leadership to harness these resources properly. Ameh urged the youth to stay engaged in political processes to demand accountability.
Daniel Dumije, the FCT Coordinator, remarked that the movement has successfully encouraged younger generations to take an interest in national politics. He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to building a new Nigeria through disciplined, democratic participation. Public policy specialist Sam Amadi concluded the session by advising members to remain strategic and vigilant as they prepare for the future electoral cycle.
