NPFL Reinstates Bendel Insurance Coach Kennedy Boboye

The NPFL has cleared Kennedy Boboye to return to his role as head coach of Bendel Insurance after reducing his 17-match suspension.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially ended the suspension of Kennedy Boboye, the head coach for Bendel Insurance. This move enables him to resume his coaching duties in time for the upcoming 2026-27 football season.

Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi confirmed the reversal in an official communication sent this Wednesday. According to the league board, the decision followed a thorough review of a formal apology submitted by the coach, in which he requested clemency. The league factored in Boboye’s improved behavior while serving his penalty, as well as his prior contributions to the sport as a professional player and a member of the national team’s coaching staff.

While the remainder of the sanction has been set aside, the NPFL issued a caution that any further violations during the next campaign will result in the immediate reinstatement of the original penalty. Boboye was initially disciplined for gross misconduct involving a match official after a 2-2 tie between Bendel Insurance and Plateau United. That incident previously resulted in a 17-match ban and a financial penalty.
