Governor Seyi Makinde shared on Sunday that his deceased father was uniquely capable of speaking hard truths to him, even when the messages were unwelcome. The governor spoke during the 14th memorial service for Pa Olatunbosun Makinde held at the Cathedral of St Peter in Aremo, Ibadan.
Reflecting on their bond, the governor called his father a trusted friend and an honest counselor, admitting that he continues to feel the absence of his advice. Bishop Williams Aladekugbe of the Ibadan North Diocese delivered the sermon, honoring Pa Olatunbosun as a committed Christian who prioritized service to his church and community.
The Bishop encouraged congregants to follow the example set by the elder Makinde. During his address, Aladekugbe also praised the governor for the successful retrieval of kidnapped students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area and lauded the ongoing stability within the state. To conclude the event, Governor Makinde and his brother, Chief Muyiwa Makinde, placed wreaths at the final resting places of their father and their mother, the late Madam Abigail Makinde.
