The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a comprehensive electronic registration system for capital market participants. This initiative aims to update Nigeria’s financial market infrastructure and increase regulatory productivity.
Announced on Wednesday, the e-Registration platform functions via the official ePortal, allowing various regulatory tasks to be performed exclusively online. Capital Market Operators (CMOs) can now handle submissions, reviews, and official approvals entirely through a digital interface.
This move is designed to remove manual paperwork, reduce administrative delays, and offer applicants clearer updates on their requests. By adopting standardized digital workflows, the SEC expects to improve its oversight capabilities and maintain better electronic records. The commission views this transition as a significant move toward a more efficient regulatory environment.
Currently, the system is limited to post-registration services for existing operators, with new registration applications to be included at a later time. The SEC has encouraged all market participants to adopt the new platform, noting that this rollout is part of a broader strategy to leverage technology to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
