The Nigerian stock market commenced the week with a positive trend, adding N288 billion to the total market capitalisation despite a challenging market breadth. The capitalisation climbed by 0.18 per cent to reach N158.614 trillion, rising from the initial N158.326 trillion. Similarly, the All-Share Index moved up by 446.85 points, a 0.18 per cent climb, concluding at 245,283.68. These gains pushed the Year-to-Date return to 57.91 per cent.
Market breadth proved negative as 39 equities depreciated while 25 advanced. Eterna Plc and Caverton Offshore Support Group each saw a 10 per cent increase, finishing at N36.30 and N5.50 per share. Omatek Ventures, AVA Capital, and Vitafoam Nigeria also showed notable growth. Conversely, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated led the decline with a 9.95 per cent drop to N80.10, followed by Cadbury Nigeria, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria, WAPIC Insurance, and Critical Minerals Financing Corp.
Trading volume contracted, with 923.01 million shares changing hands in 72,544 deals, a 2.12 per cent dip from the prior session. Access Holdings Plc saw the highest volume of activity with 166.64 million shares traded, while Aradel Holdings recorded the most value at N4.59 billion.
