In an operation conducted within the Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Nigerian Navy located nine unauthorized refining sites and seized approximately 104,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. The mission was executed by the Forward Operating Base in Bonny as part of Operation DELTA SENTINEL, triggered by specific intelligence reports shared on the Navy’s official X account this Thursday.
The naval forces focused their efforts on the Wakama/Bolo and Aworkiri areas to halt the progression of illicit activities. During the search, troops identified 23 dugout pits. Of these, 18 contained the recovered crude, while five newly dug sites were demolished before they could be used. Furthermore, the team dismantled eight makeshift refining pots and three storage tanks to cripple the syndicate’s infrastructure. These facilities were processed according to established protocols for handling stolen goods. The Navy maintains that this mission highlights its ongoing dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s energy sector against theft throughout the Niger Delta.
