Theo Abu Agada, who serves as the Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed deep regret regarding the upcoming departure of Senators Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya. Agada characterized the loss as deeply distressing following their meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Abuja Villa on Sunday.
Accompanied by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, the two senators are expected to officially transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming week. Their meeting with the President has solidified rumors regarding their intentions to leave the NDC.
Reports indicate that both men grew frustrated due to internal party dynamics regarding the 2027 election cycle. Hanga faced disappointment after failing to secure the Kano Central senatorial ticket or the deputy governorship nomination. Furthermore, he reportedly felt sidelined by the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, regarding potential political appointments.
Gaya similarly struggled to obtain the Kano South senatorial nomination, as the party prioritized a candidate supported by Kwankwaso’s faction. Prior to their visit to the President, the duo held discussions with APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, signaling the final steps of their transition to the ruling party.
