Lucy Ness, 28, has shared the distressing revelation that police informed her the ashes she received from funeral director Robert Bush were not those of her baby, but instead animal remains. Bush, 48, is currently facing sentencing at Hull Crown Court for 67 separate offences, including fraud and preventing proper burials for 30 individuals.
Ness suffered a miscarriage in April 2021 and had kept the white china urn on a shelf for three years, believing it contained her child. However, investigators discovered that Bush had collected the actual remains from the crematorium two days after he had already handed the urn to Ness. While the prosecution confirmed the urn did not contain the baby’s remains, Ness asserts that law enforcement specifically identified the contents as animal-based.
This discovery has profoundly affected Ness, who has become an advocate for stricter government regulation of the funeral industry, noting that practitioners currently operate without the professional oversight required for doctors or nurses.
