Soldiers from the Joint Task Force North West, known as Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully liberated 48 individuals on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The rescue followed a rapid military reaction to a terrorist incursion in Magami village, located in the Kaura Namoda area of Zamfara State.
Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, the media officer for the task force, confirmed the operation began after Sector 2 soldiers were alerted to a raid by militants arriving on approximately 40 motorcycles. The attackers had gathered villagers to abduct them, while a secondary group waited nearby with the vehicles.
Upon reaching the village, soldiers initiated a direct confrontation with the insurgents. This intense engagement caused the attackers to release the hostages and escape into the dense forest. While all 48 victims were saved, the incident resulted in one civilian death and two injuries. The injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda.
The Theatre Command expressed satisfaction with the troops’ performance and pledged to maintain a secure environment through intensified patrols. They urged local residents to remain vigilant and share relevant intelligence with security personnel to help eliminate threats in the region.
