Olympic champion Matt Richards is setting his sights on the Commonwealth Games to complete his trophy case. Despite his success at the 2021 and 2024 Olympics, along with various world and European titles, the 23-year-old swimmer feels a missing piece due to his four fourth-place finishes in Birmingham in 2022.
Richards expressed a deep desire to hear the Welsh anthem while standing atop the podium at the 2026 Glasgow Games. He is spearheading a 21-member Welsh squad, which features fellow gold medallist Kieran Bird and bronze medallist Medi Harris.
The competition at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre is set to run from 24 to 29 July. Other emerging talents for Wales include 19-year-old Para-swimmer Ela Letton-Jones, who earned silver at the 2025 World Championships, and 17-year-old rising star Theodora Taylor. Additionally, Tyler Melbourne-Smith is transitioning to the senior circuit after his success at the 2023 Youth Commonwealth Games.
