Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Sharafadeen Alli, have expressed their grief over the passing of Chief Lekan Alabi, labeling it a significant loss for the state. Both leaders shared their condolences in official statements on Saturday.
Chief Alabi, who served as the Chief Press Secretary for three former Oyo governors, passed away early Saturday morning at age 76. At the time of his death, he held the title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Governor Makinde, through his media adviser Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, honored the late chief as a distinguished statesman, cultural figure, and dedicated community leader. Makinde praised Alabi for his unwavering commitment to Yoruba heritage and his integrity as a public affairs analyst, noting that his advice was valued by leaders of all generations.
Similarly, Sharafadeen Alli characterized the death as a major blow to Ibadanland and the broader Oyo State. He emphasized that Alabi’s professional history in journalism and his role as a guardian of local history and traditions leave behind a legacy that will serve as an inspiration for future generations.
