The Brighton keeper mishandled a free kick from Maeva Nyadjou in the 19th minute, fumbling the ball into her own net.
This error resulted in Nigeria’s elimination from the tournament, halting their quest for an 11th title and missing automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Super Falcons are scheduled to play South Africa this Thursday, competing for a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.
Addressing the team’s future, Madugu stated that he is reviewing his roster to determine if changes are necessary. He emphasized that the coaching staff will conduct a quick assessment and remains open to selecting different players for the upcoming match against Desire Ellis’s squad. Thursday will also feature a playoff match between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.
