Former Plateau Councillor Assassinated by Gunmen in Riyom

A former Plateau State councillor, Daniel Danjuma Chong, was shot and killed by gunmen in an overnight attack on Torok village, leaving the community in shock and authorities urged to investigate.

A former councillor from the Rim Ward in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Daniel Danjuma Chong, known locally as Hon. Star, was murdered by unidentified gunmen on Sunday night. The assault took place in Torok village at approximately 11:45 p.m.

Local resident Cynthia Dung described the scene as chaotic, noting that the community was gripped by fear as gunfire rang out late into the night. She confirmed that while Danjuma was killed, another resident, David Dachollom Danjuma, was wounded in the attack and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the violence through their National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong. The organization called upon security forces and the state government to conduct an immediate investigation, capture the assailants, and improve protection for at-risk neighborhoods. Furthermore, the group advocated for the removal of criminal enclaves and urged a prohibition on open grazing, which they claim provides cover for violent actors.

As of this writing, SP Alfred Alabo, the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, could not be reached for official comment on the incident.
