Authorities in Kwara State have confirmed that 176 individuals seized during a February 3, 2026, raid on the Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama Local Government Area have been liberated. The government shared the update on its verified Facebook account this Wednesday.
In their statement, officials expressed gratitude toward President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security personnel, and all contributors who assisted in the rescue effort. The captives were originally taken when militants affiliated with Boko Haram entered the region on motorcycles, carrying out an organized attack that spanned several hours.
This violent event stands as one of the most severe incidents in the history of the state. It reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 200 people, caused widespread physical injuries, decimated local properties, and triggered a massive displacement of the surviving population.
