The Kebbi State government is partnering with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation to host a mass wedding for 300 couples on July 27. According to Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, chairman of the organizing committee, this third edition of the event features 600 total participants from 21 local government areas.
Selected candidates include orphans, widows, and divorcees who meet necessary religious and legal requirements. The initiative aims to support these groups by providing financial assistance and household supplies. Governor Nasir Idris has authorized a dowry payment of N250,000 for each bride. Additionally, the government is sourcing furniture, food, and domestic goods from local artisans to help the couples start their lives together.
To ensure health and safety, all participants must undergo medical screenings for HIV/AIDS, genotype compatibility, and pregnancy. Specialized committees have been established to manage medical services, security, and logistics. The program remains open to both Muslim and Christian applicants who satisfy the specific criteria for the event.
