A widespread power failure has affected Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo states following an emergency shutdown of the Alaoji 132-kilovolt transmission line. The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, reported that the disruption began early Tuesday morning at 3:59 am.
Ndidi Mbah, speaking for the TCN, clarified that the outage was caused by an earth fault coupled with a failure in distance protection. Because of this technical issue, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company is currently unable to receive power to supply customers in Owerri, Yenagoa, and Ahoada.
Maintenance teams have been deployed to address the situation and restore electricity flow to the affected regions. TCN officials have expressed regret for the disruption and stated that efforts are underway to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
