Kebbi ADC Claims Legal Action Against Malami Is Politically Driven

The Kebbi State ADC alleges that the prosecution of gubernatorial candidate Abubakar Malami is a politically motivated attempt by the ruling party to weaken opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Kebbi State branch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that the legal proceedings against their governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, are a calculated move to undermine the opposition before the 2027 general elections. The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice is currently facing prosecution, which the party argues is rooted in political bias rather than legitimate law enforcement.

This statement was released by the State Chairman, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala, alongside the Chairman of the ADC Elders Forum, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa. While the party supports legal accountability, they maintain that the specific handling of Malami’s case suggests targeted persecution. They highlighted concerns regarding his arrest and detention for a bailable offense, noting that his property was searched while he was away and asserting that the valuation of his assets was deliberately inflated to damage his public standing.

The ADC further stated that the current case overlooks the candidate’s established wealth and history prior to his federal ministerial appointment. The party remains optimistic that the appellate courts will deliver a fair outcome. Furthermore, the ADC accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponizing anti-corruption bodies and the judiciary to pressure political rivals. Despite these challenges, the party asserts that its membership remains firm and united in its support for Malami.
