In her announcement, Leavitt stated that she reached a point where she felt she could not fulfill the demands of the position while simultaneously being the parent she aims to be.
President Trump has yet to name a replacement for the role. He expressed support for her choice and indicated that Leavitt would remain a significant figure in his political sphere, acting as an outside advisor to assist with the upcoming midterm elections.
Leavitt’s career includes time as a spokesperson for the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. and a role on Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. She also made a bid for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022. During her tenure as press secretary, Leavitt conducted fewer traditional briefings than some predecessors, frequently using media appearances on conservative outlets to advance the administration’s message.
