Authorities in Kano State have taken five people into custody for the suspected illegal distribution and administration of local medical products. CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police spokesperson, confirmed on Wednesday that the arrests followed reports from local citizens.
On Tuesday morning, members of the 52 Police Mobile Force stationed in Challawa stopped six men linked to the Brother Paul Legacy Foundation located near the ECWA Church. The group, headed by 50-year-old Simon Gbaaondo from Nasarawa State, was reportedly dispensing unapproved remedies to residents of the Panshekara area. Law enforcement noted that these substances were being given away and sold without the necessary permits from health regulators. Additionally, the individual who provided the church grounds for these activities has been summoned to aid in the ongoing inquiry.
Following an initial report at the Panshekara Police Division, the investigation was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Police officials have issued a stern warning, reminding organizations that all medical outreach programs and the distribution of medicine must receive formal approval from the Kano State government and NAFDAC. Such unregulated events present significant threats to community health and safety. The police remain committed to stopping actions that jeopardize public wellbeing and encourage citizens to notify the authorities if they observe any suspicious medical activities.
